The results of the ‘The BigInsights 2014/15 BigData Study’ conducted by us are out. BigInsights, in conjunction with the CIO magazine, had conducted the study with special focus on the effects and growth of the volume and a variety of data, and how organisations effectively managed it to derive value. Another aim was also to understand the implications and impact of the Big Data on enterprise in the APAC region.

Key findings of this new research include the fact that improving insights about customer and improved decision making are the top reasons why organisations are investing in Big Data projects in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Some key themes that it explored included:

  • Growth – How fast data is growing in the region.
  • Use Cases – What are the main business purposes for Big Data adoption
  • Technology Awareness – Knowledge of the different technologies and platforms available in the market.

For the survey, BigInsights had invited leading Information Technology (IT) and business professionals from the Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia regions from organisations engaged or investigating a Big Data project. Those interviewed were either CIOs, CTOs, IT Directors/Managers or Business Analysts.

The survey established that increasing competition would force companies to look to data to retain that competitive edge, while the appetite for data driven decision making will see data continue to grow at exponential rates.

The shortage of skills would also see increasing opportunities for consulting firms to bring expertise to projects. This would also lead to the creation of a lucrative career path for those entering data science and related disciplines.

The key findings of this critical research will be released in a webinar on March 13, 2015. Register at https://biginsights.co/bigdatastudy/
