Curtains came down on the Strata Conference + Hadoop World 2013 in New York after three hectic days of plenary sessions and some major announcements by Big Data and IT companies. The BigInsights team comprising CEO Raj Dalal and CTO David Triggs were there all along, not only soaking in the atmosphere but also meeting up and exchanging ideas with a lot of Big Data vendors and industry leaders, in addition to bringing you the highlights of each day.
On Day 3, the BigInsights team caught up with the Chief Executive of InfoChimps Jim Kaskade. The Austin, Texas-based InfoChimps, Inc., as some of you would know, is a relatively young company in the business of Big Data, and is a provider of Big Data Platform-As-A-Service for enterprise businesses. In August this year, it was acquired by the Virginia, US-based IT services and solutions company CSC.
CEO Raj asked the InfoChimps CEO to take him through some of the reasons behind InfoChimps sale to CSC. But what got Jim really going was when he was asked to name the secret sauce for the success of a Big Data project.
Signing off, Jim had one piece of advice for Chief Information and Chief Marketing Officers on Big Data: Do not wait to implement your Big Data plan because your competition will not. Go ahead. Do it. Do not be afraid of technology or even, failure.
